“My show is all about shapes and colors. For years of painting I have been working with palette knives and layers of gel with textures in it. About a year ago I started to experiment with different gels and a squeeze. It took me to lots of geometric shaped paintings. Lately I have been inspired by my original way of painting and combining it with the new way. That is how I came to an interesting palette of my own unique colors, shapes and surfaces. Another important aspect is to use more white in the painting which makes the darker colors stand out more. It brings more light into the painting.
Aside from painting I have another passion, ceramics. A friendly couple gave me a pottery wheel and after lots of mishaps I am finally able to throw a pot. I have no desire to become a potter, I am a sculpture artist. So combining the thrown pieces together was a natural thing to do. That is how I came to my family of ‘Dancing Pots.” I hope they make you laugh and give you joy like they do to me.
I am very excited about my new body of work and love that I am able to share my art with you.”
There will be a demonstration of Barbara’s painting “method” starting around 5:30pm.
